Motto of N.S.S.

The Motto of NSS “Not Me But You”, reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students develop appreciation to other person’s point of view and also show consideration to ‘/other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is well doctrined in this motto, which underlines/on the belief that the welfare .of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.

The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are :

  • understand the community in which they work
  • understand themselves in relation to their community
  • identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
  • develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
  • utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
  • develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
  • gain skills in mobilising community participation
  • acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes

Main Projects & Collaborations

Projects Description
Swapnapurti The main purpose of the Swapnpurti is to fulfill the dream of underprivileged children to get the Education. In this project we are trying to fulfill the dream of imparting education among the children who are economically under privileged residing nearby Lalbaug, Kalachowki and Sewree area. We are teaching them the academic syllabus of their respective classes. we are imparting among them some extra-curricular activities such as dancing, painting, organizing some competitions, action oriented games and use of technology etc. Now the 26 children�s are getting benefit every Sunday from this project. The NSS unit celebrates Independence Day, Children�s day, Diwali, New Year, and Republic Day with these children.
Health related Global Hospital – The activities are conducted with St. Jude Child Health Care, working for cancer affected children. The Volunteers carry out different activities for the children and their parents as well as the visiting relatives of the patients. The volunteers also carry out extra-curricular activities such as reciting and teaching them poems, telling stories, crafts, playing games etc. The volunteers celebrate various festivals with the children like Raksha Bandhan, Children�s day, Diwali, and friendship day. 20 children are getting overall benefit through this project.

Tata Hospital – In assocaition with little more NGO, our NSS Volunteers used to help cancer patients in their documentation, food servicing & counselling.

Dengue, Malaria & water borned diseases awareness programme – In association with MCGM, the NSS unit organized medical camp in the adopted area for the villagers in which a full health check-up is done in free with the help of M R Sharwajanik Mandal. The NSS unit conducts tree plantation in association with Humanity Foundation, Mumbai at nearby college area and at the adopted area. We also conduct various activities such as:-
Dengue malaria activity like class to class awareness, rallies, workshops etc., survey nearby college area, awareness at KEM hospital

Organ donation awareness activities in association with Mohan Foundation

Vyasanmukti related activities in association with Nashabandi Mandal, Maharashtra Rajya

Road Safety The volunteers were appreciated by the Department of Traffic Police for their endeavor of encouraging the public on the measures of Road Safety. The Campaign proved helpful for creating awareness about safety precautions on Roads. The Campaign really brought a new wave about the safety measures on roads in our college premises and wherever the activities under the banner of the Campaign run. We conduct various activities such as Interaction with traffic police, low horn activity, Chalta bolta activity, interaction with truck, taxi and best drivers, Rakshabandhan with traffic police, Cross don�t talk activity, Awareness about rash driving, Rally on road safety.
Women empowerment With a purpose of empowering the girls physically the NSS unit of Maharshi Dayanand College organized Taekwondo training in collaboration with Mumbai Taekwondo association. Our Volunteers also shot one documentary named �Apali Suraksha Aplya Hatat �on this issue. Organized free anemia check up camp in collaboration with KEM Hospital. In collaboration with Akshara NGO we perform activities such as:- Akshara film screening was done in our college also 2 films based on gender equality were shown to this student, worked for women empowerment during the ganesh festival, performing street plays in various Ganesh mandals, also organized poster competition, essay writing, slogan competition related to women empowerment.
Adopted area Dhamanwadi & Tadwadi and Bhoj near Dahivali, Badlapur Tal. Ambernath, Dist- Thane.. Along with our residential camp we work on various activities such as distribution of educational materials, celebration of Republic day & Independence day, Yoga day and Diwali in adopted area, along with distribution of sweets and hygiene related materials, helped in Digitalization of Zillah Parishad school.
NSS camp Every year residential camp of M.D. College NSS unit is organizes at Dahivali village in which volunteers get involved with the native villagers by which their sense of social responsibility increases & they become aware about the difficulties faced by the native villagers ,during this period the NSS unit creates awareness on various topics like Anti-Alcoholism , Women Empowerment ,Skill Development ,Health Issues , superstitions , Road Safety Awareness , Youth Development etc.,& conduct various session for the volunteers & villagers, Anti-superstition, women empowerment etc. and cleanliness drive as well as in vanrai bandhara preparation.
Swaccha Bharat Abhiyan 15 days of Swachh bharat pakhwada and throughout the year volunteers were engaged in various activities such as cleanliness drives, awareness street plays at various places.

Environmental related – tree plantation as well as awareness about no use of plastic, garbage segregation etc.

RRC Activities In association with MDACS, awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention every year, rallies, in our adopted area Tadwadi-Dhamanwadi &Bhoj village,& also the volunteers spread awareness through displaying posters & slogan the volunteers also performed street play at various points. ICTC (Integrated Counseling & Testing Centre) centre, KEM hospital & were enlightened by the information about HIV/AIDS.
Traffic Control Programme Volunteers actively participated in Ganesh Immersion and controlled Traffic with Matunga Police Station. Kalachowki Police Station as well as Bhoiwada Police Station. The volunteers were present during all the days of visarjan, also perform crowd control at Lalbaug for the Lalbaug Ganeshotsav Mandal.
