ABOUT DEPARTMENT :-

Hindi Department was introduced as a learning and teaching subject since 1962 when the college was established. There are two members in Hindi faculty; Dr. Umesh Chandra Shukla (Associate Professor) and Dr. Usha Dubey (Assistant Professor). Option of choosing three or six papers for graduation are available. Hindi department is also centre for Ph.D. under Mumbai University.

Hindi department keeps on organizing various academic programs for students' personality development along with national and international seminars, workshops, poetry recitation and other literary activities.

METHODOLOGY : -

Some of the key instructional strategies which are used are interactive sessions on various topics, use of internet media, Newspapers, chalk and talk etc. Group discussions forms a major tool to improve language. For writing skills we organize essay & story writing competitions at various intervals.

Frequent academic visits are conducted for interactions with other colleges.

Yearly Saral Hindi certificate course in association with Hindustani Prachar Sabha is organized to improve Hindi writing and speaking skills of weaker students.

Syllabus based guest lectures and seminars which helps students to understand the subject in a better way and also clear there doubts.

Students are constantly motivated by mentoring and sharing of job openings related to hindi language.

History

ABOUT DEPARTMENT :-

The Department of History was introduced in 1962, when the college was affiliated with the University of Mumbai. It is a two-member department consisting of Dr. Rewant Vikram Singh (H.O.D, Assistant Professor of History) and Ms. Namrata Howal (Assistant Professor of History). The department teaches students as per the Choice Based Grading System (CBGS) of the three years graduate program of the University of Mumbai. At the third year, the students have the option to choose between a full major (six papers of History) or two part majors (three papers of History and three papers of any other subject of the Faculty of Arts). The staff of the department also assists in the teaching of Foundation Course.

The department endeavours to develop amongst the students an aptitude for critical inquiry, historical understanding and research, wider vision encompassing regional, national and international concerns, social responsibility, as well as soft skills, such as communication and presentation skills. The department launched the Youth History Congress (YHC) in 2015 and through it various activities are undertaken to cater to the aims and objectives of the department.

METHODOLOGY : -

In the background of the aims and objectives of the department, the methodology used by the staff involves a blend of "brick and mortar model" as well as eLearning tools. Some of the key instructional strategies which are used to deliver lectures are Chalk and Talk, PPT, Smartboard, use of Internet Media, such as YouTube, use of Social Media, such as WhatsApp Group "History@24x7", Field Visits, Newspaper Reading, Group Discussion, Quizzes, Documentary/Film Shows, Peer Teaching, Alumni Teaching, Mentoring and Remedial teaching. Various environment and community based programmes are also undertaken by the staff and students of the department thereby promoting a sense of social and national responsibility. In addition, the department promotes student and faculty research through research projects, seminars, certificate courses, workshops, field-trips, and guest lectures by eminent personalities.

Dr. Rewant Vikram Singh successfully completed his doctorate from the University of Mumbai in 2017 for his study on "Settlement Archaeology of Trade Routes of Western Maharashtra (600 BCE to c. 300 CE)".

UGC Minor Research Project titled "Evolution of Buddhist Art Along the Trade Routes of South Asia" successfully completed.

Both faculties of the department of history have presented research papers in a number of international, national, and regional seminars and conferences.

YOUTH HISTORY CONGRESS : -

The Department of History of Maharshi Dayanand College takes pride in hosting the Youth History Congress (YHC) every two years. YHC aims to bring together young minds on a common platform with the following objectives:

- To promote the cause of history and allied disciplines with focus on research and professional opportunities

- To stimulate young minds through seminars, workshops, competitions, socio-cultural programs, heritage tour and any other programs that    are conductive to, or incidental to, or are necessary

- To share and publish details of research works and events as may be considered desirable, preferably through social media

YHC is a unique platform as together with heritage-based workshops on entrepreneurial opportunities for the students of history it also organizes international and national seminars on diverse topics of history to enable scholars share their research work with a wider academia.

The logo has been designed by our student. It symbolises the key of Psyche to open the empire of the creative minds.

The Department of Psychology was established in the year 1962. Since its inception, the staff and the students have strived together for good balance of progressive academic performance and excellence in co-curricular activities. It has achieved many laurels and praises from well-wishers for its foundation work in building Individual Social Responsibility in their students. The students have been fortunate for exposure to eminent personalities and experts from various fields of mental health, well-being, spirituality, environment consciousness, financial behavior to mindfulness, entrepreneurship and so on.

Since 2014, the Department started an innovative project called 'Psychobuddies' sponsored by Union Bank of India. The project follows its tagline thoroughly which says - 'For the students, Of the students, By the students'. The Department believes in empowering its students with skills and capabilities to face varied situations in life. ABOUT DEPARTMENT :-

The department of Physics has been established in 1962. It offers Physics up to second year of B.Sc. The department comprises of three qualified Professors. Unfortunately, we have lost our third faculty member Dr. Avinash H. Karande (Assistant Professor) in a road mishap in June 2016. Rest of the faculty members are highly qualified, engaged in teaching and research activities. We all three members have published good number of research papers in journals of National and International repute. Our three non-teaching staff members are cooperative, helpful and having good rapport with students.

ABOUT DEPARTMENT :

BMM is a course that gives students hands on experience of the happenings in the media industry. Along with regular classes, numerous guest lectures and workshops are organised not just on media related subjects but also on other diverse subjects ranging from Social Sciences like Political Science and Sociology to Management related subjects like Public Relations and Organisational Behaviour. The students are also taught the basics and advanced level of computers which enable them to work on soft Softwares that help in designing and developing advertisements and magazines. The course is a blend of both, theoretical and practical education. Internal Assessment in the form of projects and assignments is an integral part of the BMM programme. MD BMM has become the most sought after programme in the city as the Department has taken the education beyond the prescribed format. Students are encouraged and constantly challenged to do the same. The students are given projects with an industry interface and thus giving them maximum exposure to the functioning of media industry. Some of these assignments include making documentaries on the various sub-cultures in Mumbai, tracing the life history of a brand through its advertising campaigns, investigating unusual human interest stories and so on and so forth. An emphasis is put on developing communication skills along with professional standards and ethics.

Banking and Insurance is one of the most popular professions of choice amongst students today.
